NEA Planning Part 2- Moodboard

The target audience for my magazine according to the brief is:
  • Cross media production
  • A fun loving 16-25 year old mass market demographic
One way in which creating a mood board helped me to define content for my product is it inspired me to use creative backgrounds that will enhance my main image. For example, the several pictures of New York has influenced me to base the front cover of my magazine here. Not only this but the use of a background that stands out and is unique links to the brief of entertainment as it is what inclines people to want to buy it. Also, the moodboard allowed me to experiment what aspects of certain images go well together, as well as what doesn't go so well. For example, images that are quite exaggerated would go better on their own rather than using other images aswell. This is because it may look too much, and take the focus away from whats most important.

The overall colour scheme of my magazine production will be black and white, with small areas of colour. The reason i chose these specific colours is it takes the attention away from the brightness  and allows you to focus more on the images. Not only this but my mood board inspired me to base the majority of my magazine in black and white however i will use red in some areas. I believe this is an effective way of making the cover appealing to my target audience as not only does it separate my magazine in comparison to other magazines it also looks effective and eye-catching.

One of the shots i have considered using on the front cover of my magazine is a mid/ long shot. This is because it considers not only the main focus of an image but the surroundings around it also. For example, the photo i have decided to use on the front page of my magazine includes a well known background that i believe my target audience will be interested in. Not only this but the idea behind me incorporating New York is that it is a famous city that a lot of people are familiar and interested in. This links to the entertainment brief and the way i have interpreted entertainment linking it to social media influencers, because people are entertained by the content they share with followers. Therefore, the New York city surroundings can be an aspect of the entertainment idea, making the audience want to read on.

On my mood board i used a series of different fonts in order to see what i think would best suit my cover. This allowed me to decide that a more bold and block font would be the best for my front cover. This is because it is easily readable and noticeable. Therefore, my target audience would be able to identify it straight away. Not only this but i chose not to use a more scripted font as i didn't want to over complicate it or take the attention away from the main products such as the images or text. Also, it can be harder to read.

The way in which i have decided to incorporate intertextuality is through the different sub headings displayed on the front cover of my magazine. Because my version of entertainment is linked to social media influencers i believe my audience would be more likely to identify the specific convention through words. For example, referencing something related to Instagram likes said by a well known influencer. I have also decided that intertextuality will be used through the model on my second magazine.

The mis en scene that i zoomed in on when creating my mood board is the location/ surrounding. For example i gathered pictures and researched the different cities that i intend to use. This inspired me to understand what location would be most appropriate in which case i decided on New York. Also, the clothing that i decided would be best for the front cover of my magazine, is quite fashionable and trendy as it links to what entertains my audience and makes them feel interested, wanting to read on.
